Several weeks ago there was all this ‘Yoga is dangerous’ stuff. I thought, “not if Kim is your instructor!”

Kim is the best. Several weeks ago there was all this ‘Yoga is dangerous’ stuff. I thought, not if Kim is your instructor. This week there’s all this stuff about how beneficial yoga is — as long as you begin slowly to prevent possible injury. Well, ditto, as long as Kim is your instructor you are in good hands. Kim gives positive correction, lots of encouragement, usually a pearl of wisdom, and let’s not forget the laughter. Kim is a blessing to me.

Kim has a peaceful, calm demeanor, and spunky sense of humor.

Laughter always feels so good and Kim has a way of making me smile, laugh and feel better. Who says you can’t laugh and do yoga at the same time? I enjoy the intimate size because there is more opportunity for individual attention. When Kim adjusts my pose, I feel awesome! Kim is passionate about her work as well as receptive, super-smart, and supportive. She provides thoughtful little luxuries, like eye pillows for closing relaxation…ahhhh. Aside from weekly yoga classes, I’ve also participated in weekend workshops. I can attest to the increased mindfulness and greater sense of peace and clarity I feel when the class/workshop has ended. I appreciate the fact that she offers these classes and workshops for all ages, with the goal of bringing people back to mindful, present and peaceful living — a welcome relief in a time of speed and information overload.

The crowning moment for me was when my boss told me during my annual performance review that I was such a different person: happier and able to cope!

About a year after I moved to Seattle, Kim led a mindfulness workshop where I work. I found it beneficial. Even more, Kim didn’t act like the stereotypical yoga teacher — she had a great sense of humor and genuine warmth. I started taking yoga classes with her.
Here are a few milestones I experienced in yoga:  My left shoulder socket unfroze and I could raise my left arm above my head again. I started to be able to sense where I was in space (proprioception) and my balance improved dramatically. My 60+ year old self learned to do a headstand! I took yoga teacher training and deepened my practice. I started meditating again after a 25-year hiatus. I learned about myself and how to experience emotion. As my practice of yoga and meditation increased, the dosage for thyroid and antidepressant medicines decreased, along with a decrease of PTSD symptoms. Any one of these things — and the list is nowhere near exhaustive — would be “icing on the cake,” but the crowning moment for me was when my boss told me during my annual performance review that I was such a different person: happier and able to cope with and accept the uncertainty of an ever-changing environment. She suspected that the change was from my yoga practice and I should keep it up! She’s right and I shall. In closing, a line from Rumi comes to mind “this is the stream of life and I am drinking from it. Thank you, Kim, for guiding this thirsty woman to the stream!
